Our Moutere Chardonnay is the ultimate goal of our Chardonnay-centric project.
Handpicked from our very own vineyard where we have done everything from the beginning, starting with the search for the ideal piece of land to plant Chardonnay. Then planting, training, pruning and repeating this every year for 4 years until our first grapes were ready.
There's a lot of hard work and many, many hours that go into making a bottle of wine by hand. Time doesn't argue. The majority of the hard graft is in the vineyard, then it's a case of time and patience in the winery, culminating with all hands on deck for bottling.
Our mustard-yellow Moutere clays soils are very rare. This particular clay is found nowhere else in the South Island and only exists elsewhere in the very northern part of the North Island.
Derived from the mineral quartz, it delivers vibrant Chardonnay fruit with real intensity, and an elevated level of purity and freshness that we believe is unique for New Zealand Chardonnay.
GROWN, MADE & BOTTLED AT ABEL
The 2023 vintage is our debut vintage of our single vineyard Moutere Chardonnay. Only a small quantity exists.
